Austin Adams Bio:
Austin A. Adams is a 40-year banking veteran who spent the majority of his career overseeing technology and operations during a dramatic consolidation of the industry. In 2006, Mr. Adams retired as Executive Vice President and Corporate Chief Information Officer at JP Morgan Chase (JPM) where he was a member of the 13-person Operating Committee and managed 28,000 employees and a $7B budget. As CIO spearheaded a $5B IT insourcing program at JPM -- the largest insourcing ever undertaken within the financial services industry. Mr. Adams joined JPM upon its merger with Bank One in July 2004. Prior to the merger, he served as Executive Vice President and CIO of Bank One. Before joining Bank One, he was the CIO at First Union Corporation (now Wells Fargo Corporation) for sixteen years. During his tenure at First Union, Mr. Adams led more than 100 mergers.
Mr. Adams served on the board of 6 NYSE & Nasdaq companies: Dun & Bradstreet, Spectra Energy Corp., First Niagara Bancorp, and Keycorp, and CommunityOne Bank, N.A.
Mr. Adams has many years of private consulting experience with more than a dozen firms, focusing on change management and organization effectiveness. He has had extensive Private Equity consulting/advising experience, primarily with One Equity Partners (JPMorgan), Cerberus, and Carlyle, serving on the boards of portfolio companies ranging in annual revenue from $10B to $500M. Mr. Austin has had multiple assignments assessing technology in target and portfolio companies and has been very active in advising on PE portfolio major change management events.
Mr. Adams was recognized as 2004 CIO of the Year by Waters magazine and one of the 16 most influential technology people in the world by Business 2.0 Magazine in 2002. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master of Sciences from Appalachian State University. He received Appalachian State’s Distinguished Alumnus award and is a member of the ASU Athletic Hall of Fame.
